Answer to (1): Roger need take out just three socks; at least two of them will be of the same color. Answer to (2): Roger has to take out at least 11 gloves. Unlike the case with the socks, gloves for the right hand and gloves for the left hand are different. Roger could take out ten gloves and they were all for the same hand. With 11 gloves, there must be at least one glove that is for the other hand. |
