Look at the illustration below.

Take the hour from 5 to 6 for an example. Suppose the bus going east comes by Eddie's stop every ten minutes at 5:01, 5:11, 5:21, 5:31, 5:41, and 5:51, and the bus going west comes by at 5: 03, 5:13, 5:23, 5:33, 5:43, and 5:53. Since Eddie comes to the bus stop at random times, the time window for him to catch the bus going east is far wider than the time window for him to catch the bus going west.

More specifically, Eddie has a total of 48 minutes out of the hour to catch the bus going east: 

5:03 to 5:11
5:13 to 5:21
5:23 to 5:31
5:33 to 5:41
5:43 to 5:51
5:53 to 6:01

In contrast, Eddie has only 12 minutes out of the hour to catch the bus going west: 

5:01 to 5:03
5:11 to 5:13
5:21 to 5:23
5:31 to 5:33
5:41 to 5:43
5:51 to 5:53.

Eddie's miscalculation was Alice's satisfaction.
