Horses of the House Here is the farmer's solution. He brought over a horse of his own to make the total number of horses to be divided among the brothers 12. The eldest son took his share, 1/2 of 12, that is 6. The second son got 1/4 of 12, that is 3. The youngest son received his cut, 1/6 of 12, that is 2. Since 6+3+2=11, the neighbor, after the problem had been worked out satisfactorily, then led his own horse back home. |
