Will John Be Paid?

To get the gold chain, John needs to do the following.

• Month 1: Cut the third ring and take it.
   

• Month 2: Return the third ring to the store owner and take ring one and two.
   

• Month 3: Take the third ring.
   

• Month 4: Return ring one, two and three and take ring four, five, six and seven.
   

• Month 5: Take the third ring.
   

• Month 6: Return the third ring and take ring one and two.
   

• Month 7: Take the third ring, for a total of seven, with only one cut.
