Who's Sofia Villani Scicolone?

Sophia Loren, before she rose to be a world-class movie star. The Italian actress was born an illegitimate child, her mother being a frustrated performer, with whom Loren spent her early years in the slums of Naples. At the age of 14, Loren started her career in show business with a little break - she won a beauty contest, for which she was awarded a train ticket to Rome, and 23,000 lira (about $35).

Commenting on her humble beginnings, Loren said: "The two big advantages I had at birth were to have been born wise and to have been born in poverty."

As for her glamour as a movie star, Loren observed: "Sex appeal is fifty percent what you've got and fifty percent what people think you've got."
