Chickens and Rabbits We may reason the following way. A chicken has 2 legs and a rabbit 4. A hypothetical chicken/rabbit thus has 6 legs. We know that there are a total of 90 legs. 90 divided by 6 is 15. So there are 15 chicken/rabbits. Since we also know that the numbers of chickens and rabbits are equal, we can cut each of the 15 chicken/rabbits into halves. The result? 15 chickens and 15 rabbits. |
